I urge you to reject the proposed two-theater plan and support the Keller’s Affordable Fix.

Portland cannot afford to pursue a project that could cost taxpayers nearly $1 billion, without a clear funding plan, demonstrated need, or guarantee that the Keller will be preserved.

Supporters of this proposal argue that delaying major investment will only increase future costs. But committing to an unfunded billion-dollar project today doesn’t reduce risk; it locks taxpayers into it.

The Keller is not broken. Broadway shows continue to perform there, audiences continue to attend, and the venue remains an important economic and cultural asset for Portland.

Instead of an expensive and uncertain two-theater vision, the City should invest $10-15 million over five years into the Keller for practical, incremental improvements. Improvements that can be accomplished now, within our means, and without burdening taxpayers.

This is not a vote against the arts. It's a vote against handing taxpayers a billion-dollar bill with no plan on how to pay it.
